You’ve likely come across these luxury beauty brands online. Influencers rave about them on Instagram and Pinterest, they appear in gift guides, and they boast thousands of reviews on Amazon. Naturally, everyone wants to give them a try. As someone who loves self-care products that smell delightful, I couldn’t resist diving into these trends. I’m always eager to experience new self care products, so I decided to test brands like Moroccanoil, Rituals, Diptyque, and L’Occitane. Here’s my honest review: are they truly worth the hype and the cost?

Morrocanoil

Moroccanoil is renowned for its luxurious hair care products, easily recognizable by their turquoise and white packaging. Over a decade ago, they revolutionized the beauty industry with a single product that introduced a new category, and now their range spans hair, body, and professional hair color products. Each product is infused with their signature argan oil and an unparalleled, magnificent scent. Their collection includes nourishing, antioxidant-rich options tailored to various needs, from Color Care to Repair.

Moroccanoil also shines in body care, offering high-performance oils, moisturizers, cleansers, exfoliants, and hand care products—all formulated with premium ingredients like squalane, hyaluronic acid, and Vitamin C.

I tried the Repair Shampoo and Hydration Hair Conditioner. The scent is captivating, as described by the brand, and it truly lives up to the hype.

My hair is normal and straight, not colored, but frequent use of a hairdryer often leaves it less hydrated and stiffer.

I used to believe that people with good hair didn’t need to spend much on hair care products. But I was wrong. After just two weeks of using a quality conditioner, I noticed significant improvements—something cheaper brands never provided. From the first use, Moroccanoil made my hair soft and manageable. I started with the small 70 ml bottles , which lasted for 2.5 weeks of daily use.

Verdict: Worth the hype. I’m sticking with Moroccanoil and just invested in their 1000 ml bottles, which should last about 8 months.

Diptyque

Diptyque is a prestigious Anglo-French fragrance brand founded in 1961 at 34 Boulevard Saint-Germain, Paris. Known for its high-end candles and perfumes, Diptyque also offers hand and body care products. As a niche brand, it’s not typically found in stores like Sephora but can be purchased in their own boutiques or online. There are currently 20 Diptyque locations in the USA. According to the brand’s CEO, their candles are priced for the meticulous, small-batch manual work involved in their production.

Diptyque Orpheon perfume - we tried 4 luxury beauty brands - are they worth the hype? and more luxury self care products in the blogpost

I was particularly drawn to their perfumes. After sampling a 2ml vial of Diptyque Orphéon, a unisex fragrance described as woody and evocative of “old money,” I was eager to purchase a larger bottle and explore other scents during my next visit.

Diptyque describes Orphéon on their website as featuring “the warmth of tonka bean, the depth of cedar, the richness of jasmine, and the vivacity of juniper berries.”

This scent is warm and elegant, suitable for any weather or occasion. It’s perfect for confident individuals, regardless of gender, as it truly embodies a unisex fragrance. It exudes wealth, serenity, confidence, and character. Neither overly sweet nor bitter, its woody aroma promotes tranquility. It conjures images of a hot Italian summer and the sophisticated atmosphere of the film “Call Me By Your Name.” It’s a fragrance worth experiencing.

Another fragrance I recommend is Moheli. Described as: “In Eau Moheli, ylang-ylang takes center stage as never before. Nestled deep within the lush vegetation of Mohéli in the Comoros archipelago, this small, sun-loving flower with its yellow petals here displays neither languor nor opulence.” This is distinctly feminine and captivating.

Verdict: Whether you’ll like a scent or not largely depends on your preferences. Diptyque Orpheon has become one of my absolute favorites.

Rituals

Rituals is a Dutch luxury beauty brand dedicated to wellbeing, aiming to harmonize body, mind, and soul. Their philosophy is encapsulated in their message: “Happiness can be found in the smallest of things. It is our passion to turn everyday routines into more meaningful moments.”

The Rituals The Ritual of Karma foaming shower gel and The Ritual of Jing foaming shower gel- We Tried 4 Viral Luxury Beauty Brands - Are They Worth the Hype? and more luxury self care products in the blogpost

I was intrigued by Rituals after seeing them frequently on Amazon and decided to try them out. If you’ve never used a foaming shower gel, it’s a must-try. Simply dispense a small amount onto your palm and rub—it creates an ample lather for your entire body.

For those who shave with a razor, foaming shower gel is indispensable.

I especially enjoyed The Ritual of Jing Relax and The Ritual of Karma. The former is soothing and relaxing, while the latter is fresh and invigorating. These products provide a truly luxurious experience.

If you have the chance, I also recommend exploring their home scents and perfumes.

Verdict: These scents are truly captivating. The products smell and feel luxurious, making them perfect gifts and a delightful indulgence for personal use.

L’Occitane

L’Occitane is a renowned French luxury beauty brand offering a range of body, face, and hair care products, along with fragrances and home items. L’Occitane is an excellent choice for adding a touch of luxury to everyday life, offering high-quality products at a price point more accessible than designer brands.

L'Occitane Verbena Perfume, Shower Gel, Hand Cream and L'Occitane hand cream with shea butter - We Tried 4 Viral Luxury Beauty Brands - Are They Worth the Hype? and more luxury self care products in the blogpost

I highly recommend their Shea Butter Hand Cream, which relieved itchiness and reduced redness on a patch of dry skin on my neck—a side effect from using Differin on my acne-prone jawline. Surprisingly, it worked better and faster than my usual eczema emollient.

Another gem is the L’Occitane Verbena Eau de Toilette. After a store assistant sprayed it on a piece of paper she put in the package with my purchase, I knew I needed a full-size bottle. The scent evokes lemon zest and leisurely seaside walks on a hot summer day in Cyprus.

The shower gel, body cream, and hand cream in the same scent make shower time an even more refreshing and energizing experience.

Verdict: L’Occitane products exude luxury and high quality. Pampering yourself with their offerings is a true pleasure, and exploring their new products is always an enjoyable experience.
